Limoncello di Schlitt
Section Three Reserve
Bottled at the Limoncello facility, Section Three shoreline
Our groves stand where nothing grew before
Section Three was open water within living memory. The grove that supplies this bottle is planted in ground that Schlitt reclaimed from a sea that had never permitted anything to be planted in it.
That is not a marketing sentiment. It is an agricultural fact with a taste attached. The mineral character of a shoreline this young is unlike anything in the old groves of the south, and our fruit carries a brightness those groves cannot reproduce, with a faint saline edge that our master distiller calls the taste of new ground. Guests notice it before they can name it. Once named, it is the thing they remember.
Made a short walk from where it grew
The fruit is harvested by hand at first light and reaches the facility the same morning. Nothing travels. Nothing waits. The grove, the press, the maceration room, and the bottling line sit within four hundred meters of one another on the same reclaimed shoreline, which is why this is the only limoncello in the world where the distance from tree to bottle can be walked in the time it takes to drink one.
Peel only, never pith. Neutral spirit, slow maceration, no additives, no colorant. The color in your glass is the color of the fruit.
Finished by hand, and signed
Every bottle of Section Three Reserve is finished by hand by a graduate of the Schlitt Coastal Formation Campus, whose name appears on the neck label.
These are young people who grew up on this shoreline, in most cases within sight of the grove, and who trained at this facility before they were employed by it. The signature on your bottle is not a marketing device. It is a person with a trade, a wage, and a first employment history that began years earlier than most. When you buy this bottle, you are their customer, and they know it.
Serving
Serve at four degrees, straight from the freezer, in a small chilled glass, after a meal. Do not dilute it and do not mix it. It was made a few hundred meters from the water and it is best drunk while thinking about that.
The gift box
Section Three Reserve is available in a two-bottle presentation box at the Limoncello visitor entrance and the campus gate, packed in the facility, with a card naming the grove block the fruit came from and the graduate who finished the bottles.
Visitors are welcome at the facility year round, including during renewal season, when the crews working the north berm are visible from the tasting terrace. Many guests tell us that watching the shoreline being maintained while drinking something grown on it is the clearest explanation of Schlitt they have ever received.
When you pour it
You are tasting a coastline that Schlitt made. There was nothing here. There is a grove here now, and a facility, and a campus across the road, and a young person whose name is on the bottle in your hand.
